STATEMENT FROM SBV SERVICES (PTY) LIMITED: TRAGIC LOSS OF LIFE DUE TO ACCIDENT AT SBV RICHARDS BAY CENTRE
Houghton, 16 February 2025 – It is with profound sadness that SBV Services confirms a tragic accident involving a Security Officer that occurred at the SBV Richards Bay Centre, in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, 15 February 2025. This devastating event resulted in the passing away of the security officer.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by this incident. The loss of life is a tragedy that weighs heavily on us all. As a company, we wish to extend our sincere condolences to his family and his loved ones during this difficult time,” expressed Mark Barrett, Group CEO of SBV Services.
A vehicle belonging to another cash-in-transit service provider was entering SBV’s premises, and collided into one of the gates at the main entrance. During this accident, the vehicle struck an on-duty Security Officer at the gate. Tragically, the Security Officer lost his life at the scene of the accident as a result of injuries sustained from the collision. The Security Officer was an employee of a service provider to SBV Services.
“As a responsible company, we take this matter seriously and are cooperating with the authorities as they conduct the investigation. We cannot provide any further details due to the investigation. We value human life and are deeply saddened by this tragedy,” said Barrett.
