SBV SERVICES STATEMENT TO THE MEDIA – SHOPPING MALL CASH CENTRE THEFT ACCUSED SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS IMPRISONMENT
HOUGHTON, 15 March 2023 – On Wednesday the 8th of March 2023, former SBV employee Bathobile Mlangeni was sentenced by the Alexander Court to eight years imprisonment for stealing cash while working at an SBV cash collection facility at the Mall of Africa in July 2019.
Mark Barrett, Group CEO of SBV Services commends the SBV Services Risk and Compliance team, the SAPS, the Hawks and the Asset Forfeiture Unit for their dedication and persistence in pursuing with the investigation to ensure that this case was finalised, and that sentence was passed.

We support the justice system for issuing a sentence that fits this crime and commend SBV’s Investigators who have worked tirelessly with the SAPS and other role players to bring this criminal to justice after three years. SBV warns perpetrators that no case is closed until it has been resolved. We will always persist in our efforts to ensure that criminals involved in theft and CIT attacks against SBV are brought to book and that the crime impacting our industry is eradicated.
