Statement to the Media – Tragic Loss of Life, Vaal Mall Vanderbijlpark

Houghton 2 December 2021 – SBV Services can confirm that a shooting incident involving an on duty SBV Services CIT custodian occurred at the Vaal Mall in Vanderbijlpark, on Wednesday, 1 December 2021. Tragically this incident resulted in a fatal loss of life.

“We are deeply saddened that a person has lost his life. As a company we wish to extend our sincere condolences to his family and to his loved ones. We would also like to urge the members of the public to provide the necessary support to provide clear and unobstructed passage for our security staff especially at this busy time of the year. Our employee is currently under police custody. We are not able to release any further information at this point in time, while the investigation is still in its infancy and we are working closely with the South African Police Service to conduct a comprehensive investigation on the incident,” says Mark Barrett, Group CEO of SBV Services South Africa. “As a responsible employer, we reiterate that we are cooperating fully with the SAPS regarding the investigation.”
